Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of fresh mushrooms (white button, cremini, or a mix)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Place a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and butter.
- Once the butter has melted and the oil is hot, add the mushrooms to the pan. Make sure they are spread out in a single layer.
- Let the mushrooms cook undisturbed for about 5 minutes. This allows them to develop a beautiful golden brown color. After 5 minutes, stir them occasionally, allowing them to cook for another 5–7 minutes until they are evenly browned.
- Add the minced garlic and fresh thyme to the pan. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Notes
Overcrowding the pan causes the mushrooms to steam instead of saute, resulting in a mushy texture. Use a large skillet or cook in batches if necessary.
Also, excessive oil can make the mushrooms greasy. Stick to the recommended amount and adjust as needed.
