Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 large  sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons  olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon  salt
  • ½ teaspoon  black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon  smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon  garlic powder

Method

  1. Start by peeling and cubing your sweet potatoes. I like to keep them around 1-inch cubes so they cook evenly and crisp up nicely in the air fryer. Toss them into a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with your seasonings.
  2. Give them a good toss so every cube is coated — this is what helps the edges caramelize.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for about 3 minutes. Don’t overcrowd — if your air fryer is smaller, cook in batches.
  4. Air fry the sweet potatoes for 15–20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. You’ll know they’re done when the edges are golden brown and a fork slides easily into the centers.
  5. Once they’re done, transfer the sweet potatoes to a serving bowl. Sprinkle with extra salt if needed, or drizzle with a little maple syrup for a sweet-savory combo.

Notes

  • Soak, if you want extra crisp. For even crispier sweet potatoes, soak the cubes in cold water for 30 minutes, then dry them thoroughly before air frying.
  • Shake the basket. This ensures even cooking and prevents sticking.
  • Cook in batches. Overcrowding leads to steaming instead of crisping.
  • Adjust cook time. Every air fryer is a little different — start checking at 15 minutes.
